The game proved to be a little tougher task than the OHS Lady Indians wanted to deal with for a season opener, but Oneida would prevail in the end with a pair of goals in the final 1:14 to come away with a 4-2 win over the Lady Panthers of Cumberland Gap on Tuesday night.

Cumberland Gap’s Izzy Helton pushed CGHS out to an early lead with a goal just five minutes in, but Addison Cross would answer with a goal of her own 23 minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. The Lady Panthers would take a lead into halftime after a goal from Raylynn Parker with five minutes left in the half to make it 2-1.

The second half was much more in favor of OHS. After back-and-forth possession for the early part of the second, Aliyah Harness would net an equalizer with 14 minutes to play, tying the game at 2-2. With two minutes to play, the Lady Indians’ offense began to press hard, which turned into success as Cross would punch in a go-ahead goal with 1:16 to play in the game. A final goal with just two seconds left on the clock from Ava-Kate Billingsley would give Oneida the 4-2 victory.

Oneida returns to action on Thursday, August 20th at home against the Panthers of Powell. Kickoff is set for 6:00 pm.
